We love seeing new patients and we're excited to talk about your family's orthodontic care. We've set aside special time during your first visit to get to know you and discuss your concerns. Our goal is to provide treatment that is uniquely designed for each patient.
Please allow approximately 1 hour for your first visit to our office. In addition to a comprehensive clinical evaluation, we will determine if this is the right time to begin treatment, or if further growth and development should occur. If treatment is indicated, we will provide you with complete information about the nature of the orthodontic concern and the approximate length of treatment time. We'll also be happy to review the financial aspect of your orthodontic care. Though fees are based on the nature and complexity of individual cases, we offer a variety of affordable payment options, including the coordination of insurance. Please plan to bring your insurance information with you to this first appointment.
Getting Started
If treatment is indicated, the next step to getting started is diagnostic records. Diagnostic records include photographs, x-rays, and impressions of the teeth. This diagnostic information allows Dr. Heiber to carefully review the nature of the orthodontic problem an develop an individualized treatment plan. To minimize your time away from work and school, these records can usually be obtained the same day as your initial exam..
Regular Appointments
The appointment when you get your initial appliances (braces, expanders, etc.) usually takes 60 to 90 minutes. You will then see us at regular intervals 6 weeks apart for adjustments (which take approximately 20 minutes). We schedule longer appointments in the morning and shorter appointments after school. By doing this, we can accommodate as many families as possible, rather than reserve an entire afternoon for one or two patients. If you prefer to come to the office during a quieter time, please schedule an appointment during school hours. .
We make every effort to be on time for our patients and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us immediately. It can be difficult to reschedule since appointments are made 8 weeks in advance..
Retainers
Once your braces are removed, you'll want to keep your smile beautiful for as long as possible. For this reason, all of our patients must wear retainers. Dr. Heiber usually recommends a combination of lingual bonded wires and removable retainers to keep your teeth in place. When it's time for your braces to come off you will get to design your own retainer! Click here to see examples of retainers our patients have designed.
